Sylvia Plachy, recipient of the Women in Photography International Distinguished Photographer Award in 2004, Hungarian-born Sylvia Plachy continues to steadily work, creating powerful and memorable images. Plachy's books include Unguided Tour (Aperture 1990), Red Light (powerHouse 1996), Signs & Relics (The Monacelli Press, 2000), Self Portrait with Cows Going Home (Aperture 2004), now in reprint and Goings On About Town (Aperture/The New Yorker 2007). Plachy has had solo exhibitions at Photo Espana in Madrid, the Whitney Museum at Philip Morris, the Minneapolis Institute of Fine Arts, the Queens Museum, and the Palladium in New York. Exhibitions of her work have also been in Budapest, Vancouver, Ljubljana, Manchester, Berlin, Arles, Hamburg, Tokyo, and Pingyau. Her work is in the permanent public collections of the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, The Museum of Modern Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House in Rochester, The Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona, The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, and The Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris. |
